Wire grinding is done to achieve different thickness
of metal wires to mould or use for different applications. The process
generally involves centerless grinding. Here the metal bar is not placed
between any centering devices, but rather is supported by a blade
between the grinding wheel and regulating wheel and a series of input
and output rollers. The abrasive wheel grinds metal from bar surfaces
and regulating wheel forces the bar against the grinding wheel.
The centered process is also used. It involves cylindrical and surface
grinding. The process involves the use of grinding wheels and cylinders.
Products that can be formed using different wire grinding techniques
are:
- Complex wire forms
- Guide wire cores and Mandrels
- Metal and Polymer tubing
- Multi-profile core wires
- Straightened wire
- Stylets
