Heat Transfer Equipment

They are devices specifically designed for the efficient transfer of heat from one fluid to another fluid over a solid surface without mixing the two fluids (where fluids can be gases or liquids.). This transfer of heat can either take the form of absorption or dissipation of heat. The purpose is to transfer heat efficiently. An effective heat exchanger can convert the wasted heat energy to usable form.

Heat exchangers can be found in everyday equipment from boilers, furnaces, and refrigerators to air conditioning systems. As per their construction, their are three types of heat exchangers:

Shell and tube heat exchangers are used for high temperature and applications or when fluid contains particles that would block the channels of a plate heat exchanger. There are several types of shell and tube heat exchangers including U-tube, straight, spiral, and finned tube.

Plate heat exchangers are used on low-viscous applications and moderate operating temperatures and pressures. Gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchangers consist of a series of channeled plates mounted on a frame each made from materials like stainless steel, nickel, titanium, etc. and with a series of corrugations. Brazed plate type consist of vacuum brazed plates to form a heat transfer device. Welded plate heat exchangers are fully welded and typically constructed of a single material.

Air-cooled heat exchangers have an integral electric motor or fluid powered fan for cooling.
