Flour Mills
Flour making is one of the oldest milling types
still existing. Floor mills convert the whole grain into flour and some
also sieve it to refine. Though stone grinding is the oldest form of
grinding, Roller milling is the most popular grinding technique today.
Stone flour mills - It is one of the oldest means of grinding.
Earlier Rotary grindstones powered by animals were used for grinding
grains. At times waterpower was used in the water mills to rotate the
stones. Today electricity is used for the purpose. Stone mills are still
considered as the finest flour producing equipment.
Rolling mill - It is one of the most common means of floor
grinding. It uses steel rollers to crush the grain. During the process,
the endosperm is sifted into different grades separating the bran and
the germ from the floor. To get whole-wheat floor, all the sifted and
separated ground elements of wheat need to be mixed.
Hammer mill - Also known as impact mills, they are used for
smaller quantities and easier operations. The grain is reduced to fine
flour texture with the impact of steel blades turning at high speed or
by free rotating hammers. This type of mill is most suitable for spices.
