Falling Film Evaporators
It is called a falling film evaporator because the
liquid flows downward in the column. The liquid is first heated to
boiling temperature. It is then passed through the heating tubes in a
very thin film and flows downward at the boiling temperature.
The quality of this type of evaporator is that is can perform at low
temperature differences between the heating media and the boiling liquid
and have very less contact time as the falling liquid is a very thin
film. This type is most suitable for heat sensitive products.
Proper wetting of the heating surface with the liquid is a must. With
an effective automatic control system, they can produce a consistent
quality product. They have replaced the traditional Forced Circulation
Evaporators.
