CNC Milling

CNC means Computer Numerical Control. This means a computer converts the design into numbers, which the computer uses to control the cutting and shaping of the material. Using the process a particular design can be duplicated on a large number of products in a single day. CNC machines can work continuously stooping only for occasional maintenance.

CNC Milling is often called die-milling machine as they use a computer-aided die for the final shaping of the product. These machines are also used to create permanent die blocks to be used in other processes. The dies created by the CNC process are precise and can duplicate the required product by other prevalent means.

Process
Using the design software the design is drawn. It is then loaded on to a computer attached to the CNC machine. The design here is converted into a numerical code that further shapes the material. The material to be shaped is taped to the machine block. The block is then placed into the CNC and is set to be machined.

Parts of CNC Milling Machines
Vice holds the material to be cut securely or else it may 'fly' out when the CNC begins to machine. It is like a clamp that holds the material in the correct position.

Guard protects the person using the CNC. It is a guard against small pieces of metals that may shoot off at high speed during mining. The guard encloses the dangerous areas.
Chuck holds the material that is to be shaped.
Motor is enclosed inside the machine and it rotates the chuck at high speed.
Lathe bed is the base to which the machine is bolted.
Cutting tool is a part made from high quality steel that actually cuts the material.
