Chemical Strainers

A strainer can be called as a coarse filter. In other word the equipment if removing the visible particle is actually straining and not filtering.

Strainers are usually used along with the filters just ahead of them so that heavy particles can be removes before the fluid enters the filter. The particles removed can be dirt and dust to submerged valuable utility particles that can be used.

Strainers are bolted, screwed or welded into pipelines like valves.

There are two fundamental types of pipeline strainers -- Basket and Y-Type.

Basket strainer is a closed vessel with a screen designed to remove and retain foreign particles from flowing fluids. The screen can be cleaned separately. It is used with liquids where frequent cleaning of the basket is required. It can handle large amount of materials. The basket is installed in the upright position. It is easier to handle.

Y- type strainer is used with gasses and it has to be cleaned rather infrequently. It can handle lesser amount of material. The basket is installed in the inverted position. The strainer screen is removable for cleaning.
