Carousel rotational moulding machines are one of the
most versatile machines used in plastic manufacturing. This method of
moulding plastic is cheaper and more efficient than the injection or
blow moulding process.
Rotational Moulding Process
The process involves a series of steps to produce the high quality of
moulded thermoplastic, which are as follows:
- Loading: The process involves mounting the mould tool on to the
arm, which is then rotated to next position.
- Balancing: The process involves balancing the mounted mould by
adding weights; this ensures that the mould spins smoothly during
the heating and cooling stage. a predetermined weight of resin is
then loaded into the mould and closed; the arm is then rotated into
the next position.
- Heating: The filled mould is then spinned between two axesin a
large oven. As the resin powder melts, it sticks to the walls of the
mould, thereby coating it.
- Sintering: The process involves air-cooling the mold as it spins
between the two axes. This is done to ensure that the mold
withstands the cooling in the next stage.
- Water Cooling: The process involves spraying the mould with water
for rapid cooling. The process makes the part shrink, making it
easier for its removal from the mould.
- Unloading: The final stage involves removal of the part from the
mould and loading of a new mould into the arm.
