Atomizers

Atomizers are dispensers that convert a liquid into a fine spray. The fine droplets provide a larger area for evaporation. The technology is used in many areas from perfume sprays to pesticide sprays and even in the spray drying technology that is quite commonly used in the dairy Industry.

Air distribution and atomization size determines the effectiveness of the drying process. The atomization process enhances the evaporation rate and the particles of required shape, size and density can be generated. The most common types of atomizers are:

Rotary Atomizer It has a rotation wheel that accelerates the liquid to the wheel edge. It is then centrally distributed in a thin layer over the wheel surface and released at a high speed at the wheel periphery. The wheels may have vanes to prevent spillage and concentrate the fluid at the disc edge.

Pressure Nozzle Atomizer They convert the pressure energy of pressure pump into kinetic energy to form a thin film of the fluid depending upon the fluid viscosity, density and surface tension. The nozzle has a swirl chamber. It givers the liquid a swirl, which allows the liquid to leave through the orifice like a hollow cone.

Pneumatic Atomization It is based on the kinetic energy provided by the compressed air. The atomization takes place due to shear friction between liquid and high velocity air. It can produce very small particles from very high viscosity liquids. It is also called "two fluid nozzle".
